County taxes and road budget to increase this year

Property taxes in Haliburton County are on the rise.

On average, residential property owners can expect their county taxes to increase by $5.15 per $100,000 of assessment value.

Warden Suzanne Partridge says the increase is combination of higher property assessments and an increase in the tax rate.

The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation determines the values of properties for taxation purposes.

The Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, which increased the minimum wage to $14 an hour is also impacting the budget.

Council also decided to increase the roads budget by almost $861,735.45
