Three lakes in Highlands East are being stocked with trout from North Hastings Community Fish Hatchery

The Haliburton Highlands Outdoors Association isn’t the only organization stocking county lakes with fish.

Highlands East invited the North Hastings Community Fish Hatchery to its council meeting to learn more about its efforts.

Since 2007, the North Hastings hatchery has released 14,560 trout into Paudash Lake, Dark Lake and Hudson Lake.

Fish hatchery Vice-Chair Steve Wilkins says he wants to learn more about fish survival rates once they are released.

Mayor Dave Burton says he invited the North Hastings hatchery to Wednesday’s meeting.

Wilkins adds he and the H.H.O.A. work closely together when it comes to sharing information.
