M.P.P. Laurie Scott forced to re-introduce bill after Premier Kathleen Wynne prorogues legislature

Laurie Scott is re-introducing a bill to Queen’s Park after the legislature was prorogued last week.

The Haliburton, Kawartha Lakes, Brock M.P.P.’s bill calls for mandatory sexual assault training for all judges.

The current rule states only new justices of the peace have to take the training but not sitting judges.

The bill unanimously passed second reading in November but according to Scott, the process has to start from the beginning after Premier Kathleen Wynne suspended the legislature.

Scott said after the bill passed its second reading that the bill was needed due to insensitive comments made by judges presiding over sexual assault cases towards victims.
