OPP says boating safety should be on your mind this summer

While lakes may still be frozen, police want you to think about boating safety before cottages open next month.

This comes as 2017 marked an eight-year-high for boating-related deaths with 31 in Ontario.

OPP Constable Catherine Yarmel says you should always make sure everyone has a life jacket before heading out.

She says you should also make sure you have everything you might need before you shove off.

Yarmel says the OPP has marine officers who patrol major lakes every summer.
