Water safety statement still in effect for the area

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says flooding is possible in the next few weeks.

A water safety statement remains in effect for the area because of concerns over rising flows and levels in local waterways. The forecasted warm weather could cause the snow that’s still on the ground to start melting and run off into local lakes, rivers, and streams.

Integrated Resource Management Technical Specialist Luke Hillyer says flooding is possible in low-lying areas.

According to Hillyer, it’s hard to say whether or not there will be any major flooding in the area because conditions can change quickly. It will depend on how long it takes the snow to melt, and if it rains.

Hillyer says you also need to be careful around fast-moving rivers and streams.

Hillyer says the MNRF will be monitoring water conditions and weather forecasts to keep an eye on what’s going on. Click here to find updates on flooding in Ontario.
