HKPR announces free classes offered in September

The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit is putting on another month of community events. During September, five courses will be offered including food handler, sexual health and a prenatal class.

Here is a list of courses being offered:

  • Healthy Beginnings – Prenatal Class: Monday September 8, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Ontario Early Years Centre (83 Maple Ave., Harco Plaza, lower level) in Haliburton Village. Continues on September 15, 22, 29 and October 6. Pre-register by calling 705-457-1391 or 1-866-888-4577
  • Sexual Health Clinic: Wednesday September 10 and Wednesday September 24, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The clinic provides clients with confidential access to cervical screening, low-cost birth control, pregnancy testing and sexual health teaching. Testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections are also provided. For more information, locations or to make an appointment, call the Health Unit at 1-866-888-4577 ext. 1205.
  • Preparation for Breastfeeding Class: Monday September 15, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Ontario Early Years Centre (83 Maple Ave., Harco Plaza, lower level) in Haliburton Village. To register, call the Health Unit at 705-457-1391 or 1-866-888-4577.
  • Food Handler Course: Tuesday September 23 and Wednesday September 24, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Health Unit office (191 Highland St., Unit 301) in Haliburton. This two-day course teaches participants how to handle and prepare food safely. Upon successful completion, participants receive a certificate (valid for five years) indicating they are registered as a certified food handler. Cost is $40 per person.
