Forest fire burning near Loom Lake

The Ministry of Natural Resources has been called in to fight a fire started earlier this week.

According to the Bobcaygeon Fire Department, the MNR was brought in to help get a forest fire under control.  The fire was reportedly started when lightning struck a tree four miles west of Highway 507, near Loom Lake. The fire, which has burned 14.3 hectares to this point, has been classified as “not yet under control” forcing the MNR to bring in helicopters and planes carrying water to douse the flames.

As of now, there have been no reports of injuries, and the fire department is asking people to avoid the area.
