Power Outage leave businesses in the dark

An unexpected power outage caused businesses in the village to lose money.

Shortly before noon, the power to roughly 11,000 customers in Haliburton village was shut off for emergency repairs to a hydro pole that caught fire near Curry Motors on Highway 118 in Haliburton. Some businesses in Haliburton’s downtown core felt left in the dark, as the short notice left them with little time to find a way to stay open without power. One business owner felt that the outage ate into their profit as they were forced to close their doors and accept the day as a loss.

Many tourists visiting the area were forced to go elsewhere in the county for food and shopping.
