Algonquin Highlands has a bigger tie to Canadian art than a lot of people think and the Oxtongue Lake for Arts and Culture wants to make sure you know about it. A new outdoor exhibit will be unveiled showing the artwork of Tom Thomson, A.J. Casson and The Group of Seven and their connection to the area. The special guest will be Casson’s daughter.

One of Tom Thomson’s pieces that hangs in the National Gallery of Canada called “Northern River” was sketched along the Oxtongue River.

A.J. Casson who joined the Group of Seven in 1926 also painted a few of his works of art in the area, including “Early September, Oxtongue Lake”.

The artwork will be put on a permanent display at the Oxtongue Lake Community Centre. The official unveiling will take place there on September 20  from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
