Before you start packing for a trip to one of the Ontario Provincial Parks, park staff are encouraging checking to see if your park has PFD’s to rent.

The ParkSmart PFD Lending Program gives campers and park attendees the ability to borrow free of charge, life jackets and other personal floatation devices. This service is currently offered in 67 parks province-wide.

The program started in 2003 to combat the fact that many lakes in the parks do not have a lifeguard there full time, and Ontario Parks encourages all to never swim alone, and put PFDs on all children going into the water regardless of supervision.

The two parks closest to Haliburton County do not participate in the ParkSmart PFD Lending Program.
