West Nile Found in Lindsay

Mosquitoes tested in the Lindsay area have come back positive for West Nile Virus.

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge Health Unit announced today that a batch of mosquitoes collected on August 9th were positive for the virus. Marking the first time in 2018 that WNV has been found in the health unit’s region.

Richard Ovcharovich, of the Health unit says “that there is no good reason to be bitten, that’s especially true with this first finding of West Nile” according to the press release issued by the HKPR.

The health unit encourages again that taking precautions to avoid getting or transmitting the disease is important. They suggest the use of light coloured clothes covering your whole body, and bug spray containing DEET

Last week the Durham Region Health Department discovered West Nile in Whitby.
