Highlands East has made history by becoming the first municipality in Ontario to offer mineral collecting sites to the public.
Hobby mineral collecting is designed to be fun for the whole family while being educational. the activity gives everyone a chance to ‘dig for treasure’ and feel and see unique geology.
The Municipality is already world famous for its specimens including gem green apatite, deep purple fluorite, large crystals of collector minerals like mica, tremolite, zircon, titanite, feldspar, and several rare species like fluororichterite, and stillwellite.
In order to collect the minerals, you have to go to the municipal office during regular business hours and get the appropriate forms.
