Blue-green Algae Found on Big Brother Lake

Algonquin Highlands announced today that Blue-green Algae has been found in the area.

Mayor of Algonquin Highlands Carol Moffatt took to social media today to warn people that the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks has found the potentially dangerous algae bloom in Big Brother Lake.

Blue-green Algae has the potential to release toxins. The Ministry suggests that if you see an algae bloom, avoid skin contact, do not ingest, keep your pets away, do not eat fish caught in the area and finally contact the Ministry immediately to report the bloom.

Moffatt says that this bloom just reinforces the township’s commitment to lake health through septic inspections and healthy shorelines. To report algae bloom call 1-800-268-6060 or click here for more information on Blue-green Algae.
