The long standing issue of a medical marijuana by-law in Highlands East came to a resolution yesterday. Changes to the by-law came back and forth to council over the past few months. Municipal Planner Chris Jones suggested adding a definition to the current Municipal Zoning By-Law instead of specific regulations. He says those can be added when the Zoning By-Law is updated. The amendment includes this definition for a Medical Marijuana Facility:
‘A facility utilizing land and/or structures for the purpose of propagating, processing, storing and/or distributing marihuana used for medicinal purposes in accordance with Federal law and regulation. A Medical Marihuana Facility shall not be permitted in a dwelling unit.’
