Haliburton Hockey Hall of Fame coming to AJ La Rue Arena

Haliburton’s hockey stars are well known in the area, and Charlie Teljeur thinks it’s about time the town put up a hall of fame. He requested Dysart council’s support to decorate the change room doors in the AJ La Rue arena with hockey stars that came from Haliburton County.

Council approved $2500 for the project. Local hockey stars to be commemorated will be Bernie Nichols, Walt McKechnie, Scotty Morrison, Matt Duchene, Cody Hodgson, and more. Each door will include a picture of the star and a biography of where they grew up and how they succeeded in the NHL.

Teljeur brought it forward to council on Sept. 22 and said they have the opportunity to develop it more in the future. He said additions could include local team stars as well as figure skaters and other sports stars coming from Haliburton.
