The Trillium Lakelands District School Board is explaining how it is decided to cancel buses.
The TLDSB took to Twitter this week, with a video describing the decision-making process that goes on before a bus gets cancelled for the day.
In the video, students from different grades explain the decision to cancel a bus is not an easy one. The young people say the school board’s transportation division considers the visibility on the road, if there is freezing rain, how the roads are, if it is snowing, how much is expected, if there is a “bad” storm coming, and if the temperature is going to be low.
According to the video, the transportation division is busy if a big storm has been forecasted. Staff in the transportation division watch to see how the weather develops in the City of Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton County and the District of Muskoka as part of the decision-making process.
If there is a storm incoming, the transportation supervisors are expected to reach out to bus companies in the three regions and discuss the road conditions.
If the bus does need to be cancelled, the various bus companies will call the drivers and let them know. According to the school board, you can sign up to get bus cancellations at http://www.mybustoschool.ca
