There is still time to donate to Gifts from the Heart

SIRCH is reminding people there is still time to donate to its annual donation campaign.

Gifts from the Heart is a campaign offered by SIRCH Community Services. The campaign has money being collected to help the SIRCH Community Kitchen to operate and provide meals for those in need.

Angelica Ingram of SIRCH tells My Haliburton Now.com SIRCH’s Community Kitchen operates purely on the donations of others, adding the Gifts from the Heart campaign is purposely done near the holiday because many food insecure people are tasked with deciding between heating their homes or buying food, meaning many rely on services like the community kitchen to eat throughout the winter.

Ingram says so far this year they are behind in terms of donations, she says that they are trying to reach $30,000 by the time the campaign ends. Ingram explains that anyone looking to donate can do so by calling them at 705-457-1742, or interested donors can go to their address on Maple Avenue, or by going to their website.

“Last year we gave out 7,000 meals through our different programs, and that just goes to show the need,” says Ingram trying to emphasize the importance of campaigns like Gifts from the Heart. Ingram says the Community Kitchen Program is open to anyone, adding the meals they give out are already made so even people that cannot cook for themselves can make use of it.

The Gifts from the Heart Campaign is only halfway to their goal.
