Ontario Investing in Haliburton County municipalities

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs is giving to the local municipalities.

Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock MPP Laurie Scott announced today that Ontario is giving a combined $2,876,271 across the county.

Scott says the county will get $725,000, whereas Dysart and Minden Both are getting $542, 255. The Municipal of Highlands East is receiving $534,469, and Algonquin Highlands is getting $532,292.

Scott said “I am pleased that our municipal partners will have the ability to invest these funds where they feel it will have the biggest impact,” adding “this modernization funding recognizes the unique needs and circumstances of rural communities in our riding and provides them with the support they need to deliver services efficiently and effectively.”

Dysart et al Mayor Andrea Roberts said, “The provincial government said ‘rural Ontario matters’, and this funding can’t come at a better time.” She added, “We look forward to collaborating with neighbouring municipalities, prioritizing our capital works, and finding ways to modernize and improve our services.”

In the letter sent to heads of council by Steve Clark, the Minister of Municipal Affairs, said “taxpayers need their local government to deliver modern, efficient services that show respect for their hard-earned dollars. This funding will help small and rural municipalities improve how they deliver services and reduce the ongoing costs of providing those services”.

Algonquin Highlands Mayor Carol Moffatt announced the funding on Facebook earlier this week.
