Snowmobile Trails officially closed county-wide

With the winter almost in the rearview, snowmobile season has come to a close.

Haliburton County Snowmobile Association Director John Enright says the 370 kilometres of trail monitored by the association are officially closed for the year.

Enright says the association feels that the snow is too inconsistent and the marked routes across lakes are glare ice, making it too unsafe for snowmobiles.

He calls this the best season, in terms of grooming hours, trail availability and closing date, in recent years.

Now that it’s over, Enright is highlighting some of the events the association accomplished over the season.

That includes rebuilding and renaming the current Richard Ovsterovich Bridge, supporting the dogsled races, participating in the Dysart et al Frost Festival, and the inaugural Winter Carnival at Stuart Baker Elementary School.

Enright says the HCSA is thankful to the over 100 landowners who allowed the trails through their property.
