There’s a new, or rather refurbished, gym in town.

The Dorset Rec Centre Fitness Room is open to the public and ready for use. Chris Card, the Parks Rec and Trails Manager in Algonquin Highlands, told council today that the gym has been very well used since opening this month.

Card explained that there was a lineup of people ready to work out the day that it opened, and the stream of people going in there has been steady. The fitness area was closed for a short time while contractors renovated the area, and brought in new fitness gear.

While pouring over the monthly activity reports for March, it was noted the new equipment is designed in such a way that even seniors with limitations can still make use of it.

According to Card’s report, the fitness area saw a 24 per cent jump in users last month and anyone wanting to use it is always welcome.
