The Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Kawartha-Haliburton are getting ready for the big dinner.
Staff with the local branch of the global organization announced that the 17th annual BIG Dinner and Auction is happening on June 6th.
According to the organizers, this is one of the main fundraisers for BBBS, and their mentoring programs count on it to be sustained. BBBS is encouraging everyone to attend the event, which is happening at the Victoria Park Armoury from 6:00pm to 9:30pm.
No BIG was not a typo, according to BBBS, the capitalized spelling was a conscious choice to symbolize the big things that volunteers can accomplish and the big impact that mentoring has on youth. Aside from the symbolism of the spelling, BBBS says the auction features “big” items like a $500 VIA Rail credit, $500, a 2019 Camp Can Aqua 2 week spot for a child, toys, tools, home decor, clothing and gift certificates.
The organization says “the business community has always been very generous and there should be 150 items available through the door prizes, silent auction and live auction.” And if any business wants to donate things to the auction, they can contact BBBS to sort that out.
Jim DeFlorio, Executive Director, says he can’t stress enough how much the organization depends on the community to help us to provide mentoring programs on an annual basis. Big Brothers Big Sisters is a true community-based organization that can only provide a level of service that is based on the annual support we receive through our events, general donations and the United Way.
