Minden Hills going to start sandbag pick up May 21st

Minden residents will need to hold onto their sandbags a little longer.

The Township announced today that it is going to begin picking up sandbags from people starting on May 21st.

Although the roads department is going to collect them, the town says staff are only going to do curbside pick up only, and only on an as-needed basis.

Anyone that cannot move the bags to the curb can get an exception as long as they call the Recovery/Event Coordinator at 705-286-1260 ext. 211 or after hours at 1-866-
856-3247. As well, any person that wants to keep the bags may do so.

Minden Hills says it bought sand this year that doesn’t contain road salt so it can be used for landscaping purposes. If you intend to keep the sandbag in case of future flooding, the bags themselves are more durable and resistant to UV deterioration.

At the time of the pickup, the property owner will need to sign a release form allowing Mennonite Disaster Services and the township staff to work on the property.
