Free fishing extended to July 7th across Ontario

PARRY SOUND, ON – What was supposed to be just a weekend, has turned into a week.

MPP Norm Miller announced today that Ontarians can fish for free until July 7th.

The free fishing was originally just supposed to be for Canada Day weekend, but Miller says that has been extended so people of all ages can try fishing licence free.

According to Miller’s press release, this week of free fishing in the fourth time this year that people were given the chance to fish without a licence. There was also free events on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

“We want to encourage families to get outdoors by providing a fun and affordable way to connect with nature and family,” said Norman Miller, MPP for Parry Sound-Muskoka. “Licence-free fishing events are a great way to get kids hooked on fishing.”

In Parry Sound-Muskoka, this week includes the 3rd Annual Ril Lake Youth Rock Bass Derby in Ril Lake on July 6th, 2019.

“Fishing is not only a good family activity, it is a good business as well. Recreational fishing contributes $2.2 billion to Ontario’s economy annually and brings tourists to Parry Sound-Muskoka,” said Miller
