MINDEN HILLS, ON – An event geared to inclusivity started today with a ceremonial flag-raising.

Crowds of people gathered in front of the Minden Hills municipal office to commemorate the beginning of Pride Week in Haliburton County.

The ceremonial event featured the likes of councillor Jennifer Hughey, Jean Neville, Bob Carter and other members of Minden Hills staff.

Some of the other attendees included Sinclair Russell, the co-founder of Minden Pride and Pride Committee member and David Rankin, the Chair of this year’s Minden Pride.

Russell was the first to speak explaining the meaning of the pride flag colours, the creation of Pride and the Stonewall riots.

According to Russell, the various colours of the flag have different meanings. Red represents life, orange is healing, yellow is sunlight, green is nature, indigo represents serenity, and violet means spirit.

The Pride Flag resides in front of the municipal building for the remainder of Pride Week.
