Linda O’Leary facing possible prison time in wake of fatal crash charges

MUSKOKA LAKES, ON- Linda O’Leary could be facing time in jail.

Linda, wife to celebrity businessmen Kevin O’Leary, was one of two people charged by the OPP today in the wake of a fatal crash on Lake Joseph back in August.

She’s facing one count of careless operation of a vessel, which contravened the small vessel regulations of the Canada Shipping Act.

Richard Ruh, 57, of Orchard Park, N.Y., has also been charged with failing to exhibit navigation light while underway, in contravention of collision regulations in the Canada Shipping Act.

According to spokesperson Staff Sgt. Carolle Dionne of the OPP, the maximum penalty for the careless operation charge is a fine of $1 million or 18 months imprisonment.

She wasn’t able to release details on how police came to those charges, due to the matter being before the courts.

Dionne told the MyMuskokaNow.com newsroom that Ruh’s charge does not carry possible prison time, instead being a set fine, treated as a ticket. She did not have the fine amount to hand when asked.

Dionne also told the CBC that Linda suffered an injury to her leg that required surgery as a result of the crash. The CBC also reported that her legal team will be making her October 29th court appearance in Parry Sound on her behalf.
