When it comes to getting a flu shot, local healthcare workers are being pitted against each other in a friendly competition.

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit’s (HKPRDHU) Let’s Fight Flu Challenge is back for a second year.

Workers at five hospitals, 20 retirement homes and 20 long-term care homes in the area are being asked to get their annual flu shots to earn top bragging rights.

Dr. Lynn Noseworthy, of the HKPRDHU, said in a release that healthcare workers provide important care to vulnerable patients and residents who are experiencing serious health issues.

“So it’s important they get their flu shot early each year and by offering the Let’s Fight Flu Challenge for a second year,” Noseworthy said in the release. “We hope to give health care workers extra reason to get their flu shots.”

The Health Unit added that the winning facilities in each category to score the highest vaccination rate among its staff for the coming influenza season will be recognized.
