HAVELOCK, ON – A pair of trappers are facing a $3,000 fine for illegal practices.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry charged the two from Havelock and Hastings. According to a release, they were allegedly using illegal traps and baiting methods.
Conservation officers said they received a tip from the public, which led them to the pair. A bait pile surrounded by suspended cable snares on a property in Havelock was found.
A dog from the Canine Unit became entangled in one of the non-relaxing cable snares during the investigation, but was not injured.
Anyone wishing to report a natural resource violation is asked to call the toll-free ministry TIPS line or contact their local ministry office. Complaints can also be made anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
