Haliburton cleanup day in talks

HALIBURTON, ON-An ongoing discussion involving Dysart Et al’s environment and climate change committee could end up setting aside one day in May for volunteers in Haliburton to pick up litter on the roadsides.

A recent meeting on October 10th held discussions for many factors that could influence the decision to move ahead with this cleanup day.

If the project were to proceed, an inventory of trash would be collected and compiled to use for future educational purposes.

Councillor John Smith, who chairs the environmental committee, said that the cleanup he is involved with around town, collected more than 1,000 beer cans last May.

To help with identifying what type of trash gets recycled and which goes in the garbage, a new app could make the process more simple.

Waste Wizard will soon be launching in Highlands East and Algonquin Highlands.

The app could actually play a larger part in the community because council is actually going to use the data collected from the app to help decide if they are going to move ahead with their cleanup day.

The council will return to discussions on November 20th.
