Flu season is here

COTTAGE COUNTRY, ON- The flu is coming to our area.

According to the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit (HKPR) the first confirmed case of flu has arrived in the region for the 2019-2020 flu season. The areas that have been impacted include Haliburton County, Kawartha Lakes and Northumberland County.

According to the press release, Marjanne Rock, the Manager of Health Protection with the HKPR health unit said that this year is no different than others and that the first case of flu usually appears in November.

The flu vaccine is recommended for infants over six months and anyone else who has not received the vaccine.

The health unit is advising locals to wash their hands thoroughly and often, sneeze and cough into your sleeve, stay at home from school if you are sick, eat well, get sufficient sleep and be physically active to avoid contracting the flu.

Locals can get their flu shots from their health care provider or pharmacy. The health unit is also offering to administer the vaccine.
