Minden Hills reassures citizens about drinking water

MINDEN HILLS, ON- Minden Hills wants residents to know their water is safe.

The township issued a statement this week, in response to widespread concerns about the levels of lead in Canadian drinking water systems.

On November 8th, Minden released a report saying that the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) is following all drinking water treatment protocol and standard operating procedures dictated by the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP).

Minden is currently on a reduced lead sampling plan due to the levels of lead found over four sampling periods.

Regulated by the MECP between 2017-2018, samples indicated that Minden had lead levels between 0.01 per litre and 0.43 per litre while the Lutterworth Pines distribution system had levels between 0.06 per litre and 1.96 per litre.

If the water is found to contain an excess of lead that is recommended, according to the report, the OCWA and Minden will take measures to ensure that no one will fall sick from the water.
