The long term care facilities in Haliburton County are doing great.
Dr. Norm Bottum says that’s because two of the facilities are attached to hospitals, so a lot of the protocols in place are HHHS wide protocol, and he feels we are ahead of the curve there. He says Extendicare is “working really hard to maintain the same level of quality”.
Dr. Bottum says the homes are ready. The doctor really wants to point out that the virus doesn’t just show up and come into the homes, it comes in through the workers in the homes. He says he knows they’re under a lot of stress.
The COVID outbreak in Ontario has hit some of the long term care homes hard and it can spread quickly through the homes. Dr. Bottum says our long term care staff are doing an amazing job and they need our support at this difficult time.
They’re wanting to be careful while they’re out, social distancing, washing their hands frequently, and they hope everybody else is doing the same thing.
Dr. Bottum says we must work hard to support our long term care staff because they are doing a great job.
