Help from HCDC to boost local economy

HCDC launches the Regional Relief and Recovery Fund to support local economy.

Businesses in Haliburton County that have been unable to access existing federal relief measures, can now apply for funding under the Regional Relief and Recovery Program (RRRF).

Haliburton County Development Corporation Executive Director Patti Tallman says, “small businesses are at the heart of our economy and many are vital to economic development in Haliburton County. The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in uncertainty and anxiety for businesses and their employees”.

Tallman says “This is where the Regional Relief and Recovery Fund will assist main street businesses in our communities”.

With $962 million nationally, the new fund will support businesses, and enhance access to capital for rural businesses. Through the RRRF, HCDC will have an increased capacity to provide struggling businesses, with financial support, to weather the impact of COVID-19.

HCDC are now providing interest-free loans to help support fixed operating costs of small and medium-sized businesses, where revenues have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In order to provide targeted assistance to the small towns and communities served, HCDC will focus on assisting “main street” businesses, such as retail shops, restaurants, corner stores, and businesses of strategic importance to the communities, with loans up to $40,000.
