‘Watch for Turtles’ signs are disappearing around the county

Turtle season is here and The Land Between National Charity needs your help.

Turtles will be on the roads and will start nesting next week.

Founder and COO of The Land Between, Leora Berman says” it takes more than 30 years for one turtle to replace itself, meanwhile without turtles, our lake health and fish habitats would diminish without hope”.

Berman says they’ve “been working with landowners in prone crossing areas, to put up signs, but someone is stealing them.

All of the signs on Gelert road have been taken, including the sign on the Haliburton Highlands Outdoors Association mailbox.

The thefts are particularly concerning, because all of the signs were on private property.

If you have any information regarding the thefts, or would like to get a sign for your property, call the Turtle Guardians headquarters at 705-854-3578 (705-85helpt).
