Province announce 150 million dollar donation to improve internet and cell service

Ontario’s Minister of Infrastructure Laurie Scott announced a $150 million donation from the province, to improve rural broadband internet and cellular service.

MPP Scott says people who have little to no service will be targeted. Scott says “we have a lot of those pockets up in the Haliburton Highlands”. She says in many parts of her riding “calls are dropped or Zoom goes out or your internet goes out completely.”

Scott says it’s a big step and that the Eastern Ontario Regional Network is already doing a cell gap service study and has plans to move forward in our region.

Scott says internet and cell service gaps are the ‘number one issue across the country”.

The province will announce the 2-section plan in the next few weeks.
