New Year means new changes to Smoke-Free Ontario Act makes smoking in Ontario harder

With the new year starting on Friday, comes a new regulation in Ontario. It will be illegal for Ontario residents to smoke on playgrounds and public sports fields as well as bar and restaurant patios. These changes are being made to the Smoke-Free Ontario Act to limit smoking in public places, reduce exposure to smoking and make it more difficult for young people to buy tobacco.

Dr. Lynn Noseworthy, Medical Officer of Health with our local health unit says it’s about making smoking less normal to prevent people from picking up the habit in the first place.
