Increased parking on Big Hawk Lake and Little Hawk Lake Roads on Algonquin Highlands agenda

Increasing parking on Big Hawk and Little Hawk Lake Roads is back on Algonquin Highlands agenda one year after staff originally brought forward options for council to consider.

At that time, council decided to hold off on the project until further notice.

This year staff has seen an increased number of parked vehicles on both roads outside of the seasonal high traffic times – June through September.

The township’s Public Works department reports that the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way business is conducted, and it has brought a sense of urgency to the need for increased public parking in these areas.

Staff will present council with a design plan and costs to purchase land and create ‘pay-per-use’ parking for water access properties on each road, at their regular council meeting Thursday morning at 9.
