How to make sure you’re not losing energy in your home during the cold spell

As we expect the temps to drop well in to below freezing, you may want to make sure you’re not losing energy when heating your home. Customer service manager with Lakeland Power Sharon Shipston says you got to watch out for drafts through your windows.

Shipston also suggests turning down your thermostat. She says for every degree your turn down, you could save up to three percent of your heating costs.

Depending on the house you own, Shipston says people could pay up to 60 per cent of their energy dollars on space heating. Shipston says other simple ways you can save on heating costs include using your curtains.

Shipston says a lot of the tips she shares with customers come from the Ministry of Energy’s website. She says there are useful tools on how you can save on energy over the winter.
