Dysart man faces charges after nearly hitting two officers with snowmobile

A Dysart man is facing five charges after he almost hit two officers with a snowmobile. It happened on Saturday when officers tried to pull over the man when he was travelling down the core of the village of Haliburton at a high speed. Officers couldn’t keep travelling at those speeds because of public safety, so they stopped following but kept patrolling the area.

When they located the snowmobile again, the driver fled for a second time. Officers continued and followed the tracks to an unmaintained trail. While on foot, they found the driver and tried flagging him down. It was at that time the driver accelerated toward the officers, forcing them to jump out of the way. The snowmobile got about 25 meters past the officers when the driver lost control and struck a tree.

Officers were able to catch up with him and arrested the 31 year old for flight from police, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, among other charges. Officers also report it was apparent that the driver had been consuming alcohol.
