Health Unit wants to #StickItToCovid

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit (HKPR) is offering prizes for anyone between the ages of 12 and 17 that get vaccinated.

For anyone in that age range that has either their first or second shot of a COVID-19 vaccine by September 30th, they will be entered into a draw to win Air Pods or Apple gift cards. To enter, email [email protected] or call the health unit at 1-866-888-4577, extension 1508.

As part of the #StickItToCovid campaign, the health unit is also using the hashtag to get people – young and old – to take selfies of themselves getting vaccinated in hopes it urges those who are hesitant to book an appointment.

“Youth need to get vaccinated now to ensure they are either fully or partially vaccinated in time for the start of school,” HKPR Medical Officer of Health Dr. Natalie Bocking says. “We tend to see a lot of respiratory viruses in the fall, and with the Delta variant behind most of the new COVID-19 cases, a fourth wave of illness is a real possibility.”

The latest numbers from our health unit show that 79.5-percent of residents within HKPR’s medical region have received one COVID-19 vaccine dose, while 69.5-percent are fully vaccinated. Both those numbers are under the vaccination targets set by the province: 80-percent for first dose coverage and 70-percent for two doses.

“Youth have the power to protect themselves and others from this deadly virus, and by getting vaccinated, they are truly sticking it to COVID,” Dr. Bocking says.
