Haliburton County’s population has grown by 2,509 people in the past five years.

Statistics Canada is starting to release the results of the 2021 census.

There are now 20,571 people living in the county, which is an increase of 13.9-percent from 2016.

All four municipalities in the county also grew over the past half-decade:

  • Algonquin Highlands grew by 237 residents to 2,588, which is an increase of 10.1-percent.
  • Dysart et al increased by 902 to 7,182, a bump of 14.4-percent.
  • Highlands East jumped by 846 to 13,157, which is an increase of 6.9-percent.
  • Minden Hills grew by 883 to 6,971, which represents a 14.5-percent jump.

The village of Haliburton saw a decrease in residents. There are 1,078 people living in Haliburton, which is 71 less than in 2016 when the results of the last census were released.

This is the fourth census in a row that the county’s population has grown. The 2001 census saw the population drop from 15,321 to 15,085.

Statistics Canada does a national census of population and census of agriculture every five years.
