Ontario funding feature film produced in Parry Sound

Ontario has invested $500,000 in the production of a movie shot right in our backyard.

Released in 2020, the feature film Happy Place was produced by Sienna Films Productions XVIII Inc. near Lake Rosseau.

An adaptation of the theatrical play by Canadian writer Pamela Mala Sinha, the film centers on a group of women residing at an inpatient mental health clinic after various personal crises.

Written, directed, and produced by Canadians, Elise Cousineau, the film’s Production Executive, says the government was instrumental in the financing of the film.

Cousineau says these films provide a platform for Canada’s talented creators and producers to stretch themselves artistically while offering a training ground for emerging creative and technical crew members, building the future of the industry.

Happy Place is one of 27 film and TV projects across Ontario getting a provincial funding boost totalling over $11.4 million. The money, coming through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, is meant to help grow the entertainment industry in the North.
