Haliburton County is still seeing a problem with destructive Blue Jays. A recent report to council shows the birds have damaged over fifteen hundred civic address signs and about fifty road signs. Pictures taken by county staff show the birds chipping away at the signs, sometimes removing entire numbers. Close to 400 property owners have paid for a protective cover to put over their address signs to keep the birds away. Staff is still monitoring the problem to figure out if the problem will be just as big this year as it was last year.
