Local Constable receives Outstanding Police Officer Service Award

One of our local OPP officers was recently awarded for his commitment to the community. Constable Robin Carmount received the Fleming College Police Foundations Outstanding Police Officer Service Award. He talks about what it means to receive this kind of award.

Carmount received the award for the sports program he started a couple of years ago. Every Monday night students from Archie Stouffer are invited to play sports with local officers. He says it’s a great way to give the kids something to do, but it also helps improve the bad publicity police officers often get.

But, above it all, Carmount explains his favourite part of the whole experience.

Carmount says a lot of local groups, service clubs, and businesses have donated and helped the program along. With each student bringing one dollar every night they attend, they’ve raised about one thousand dollars to date, which Carmount says they’ve donated right back to the community.

Carmount says it would be great to see a similar program offered in Haliburton, and he would want to help anyone who would want to get it started.
