People will start the feel the effects of the expanded ban on smoking with the warm weather and the long weekend here. Kris Kadwell, Tobacco Control Officer with the local health unit explains the recent changes to the Smoke Free Ontario Act:

Kadwell says that anyone who’s caught smoking or holding a lit cigarette in these banned areas could face a fine of at least 305 dollars and as much as one thousand dollars. Restaurant owners, operators and managers could also be fined if they allow smoking on their patios. For details on the changes, go to the Health Unit’s website.
