Public concerned about water levels, Orillia Power says they won’t change with new generator station

The biggest concern Orillia Power Generation heard yesterday was about water levels. That was during the public meeting about the new generator station they want to put in at the Horseshoe Lake Dam. According to the company, they’ll get direction from Parks Canada so it won’t change water levels. However Parks Canada adjusts the levels now, will continue.

In fact, President and CEO of Orillia Power Keith McAllister says their efforts could improve the water levels. They hope to install automated gates which will make it easier and quicker to adjust.

They also said the Whitewater Preserve gets priority in their peak season, so the station will only be taking water at night.

The project still needs to be awarded the contract by the province, which McAllister is confident they’ll get.

Council still needs to vote on whether or not they support the application.
