New charity is helping people pay for unexpected vet costs

There’s a new charity in town, and it’s all for our furry friends. The Haliburton Pet Owners’ Assistance Fund has launched to help people pay for unaffordable, non-routine costs for their pet. Tayce Wakefield is one of the founders and she says they already have vets on board and funds available.

Wakefield says her and her husband came up with the idea when their dog got sick last year and needed some medications.

The process to apply for funds will all be done through your vet, and Wakefield says different people will be eligible.

She says they’ll also help people who just experienced something like a flood or fire.

Wakefield says they are now a registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency, and they have five board members. She says they will be doing fundraising in the future, but right now they’re just looking for donations.

All the details including who is eligible, how to get involved and how to donate are on their website.
