Cottagers asking municipality for winter maintenance on Universal Road

Local cottagers are asking for their road to be maintained all year. Road Associations surrounding Universal Road are asking the Municipality of Highlands East to start plowing the road in winter.

According to the group there are 53 cottages on the road, and about 75 per cent of them say they would come up in the winter. For the past ten years, it’s been plowed by property owners.

Deputy Reeve Suzanne Partridge says the road would have to be widened to meet current standards for them to plow it. According to the CAO, it would cost the township about $10,000 a year to maintain.

An assessment of the road will come forward at the next council meeting.
