Minister of Energy under fire by local MPP

Ontario’s Minister of Energy is coming under fire from our local MPP. Laurie Scott is asking how people can be expected to only use hydro in off-peak hours.

In response, Minister Bob Chiarelli says they have ways to reduce costs like the Ontario Electricity Support Program. He also says the debt retirement charge will be removed from bills starting January 1st. However, Scott says that’s not good enough.

Scott says Ontarians shouldn’t have to continue to starve, freeze in the cold and sell their homes because of the government’s energy policies.

Chiarelli says the Ontario Electricity Support Program will save modest income families $360 – $400 per year. He also says senior citizens are able to apply for their tax credit and get up to $1060 off their electricity rates.
