One of the biggest changes for the Health Unit in 2015 will be the new bans on smoking. Tobacco Control Officer, Kris Kadwell explains the Health Unit’s role in the new changes.

The changes to the Smoke Free Ontario Act mean smoking is not allowed on restaurant and bar patios, as well as within 20 meters of public playgrounds and sports fields. Kadwell says their main focus right now is educating everyone on the new regulations.

He says the reason for the change is about reducing exposure, but there are other benefits as well.

Kadwell says they’re getting tremendous public support. He says it’s great to see the change in philosophy and the de-normalization in the process.
