Algonquin Highlands Reeve named new Warden for Haliburton County

There’s a new Warden for Haliburton County, and it’s Algonquin Highlands Reeve Carol Moffatt.

She was nominated by former Warden Murray Fearrey this afternoon. The nomination received a second by councillor Brent Devolin.

In her first remarks as Warden, Moffatt says the county is facing challenges, but they want to continue to partner with community organizations, groups and businesses to create a collaborative and unified voice. She says her top priority continues to be tourism because it’s such a strong basis for the county.

She also lists the poverty reduction strategy, high speed internet and OPP costs as things to tackle in the upcoming year. She says she wants to work on a standardized framework for solar installations in the county so they can embrace green energy without making the entire county a solar panel.

Moffatt is no stranger to the position as she was Warden back in 2013.
